Several shoe selling questions....?

First of all, a little about myself. I am currently in my 2nd month as a shoe salesman. I%26#039;m good, but I could be WAY BETTER. I am not consistent in a lot of things...customer service, accessories sales, etc.

But it hasn%26#039;t cost me my job yet.

:)

What%26#039;s the difference between a good shoe salesman and a bad one?

How come there are so many people who decline on belts, socks, polish, shoetrees, handy polish sponges and so on and instead buy just one shoe? I know part of this answer, but the economy doesn%26#039;t have to do with everything.

If YOU were a salesperson, how would you convince a male and female customer to buy a belt or a purse or something else that doesn%26#039;t really cost them that much? I am starting to bring a matching purse to the ladies. Doesn%26#039;t work that much. And with the guys, I slip a shoe tree into the shoe and talk. They say: %26quot;I already have this.%26quot;

What things should clerks AUTOMATICALLY do when they%26#039;re helping a customer? Feeling where their toe is?

Several shoe selling questions....?
I can only speak for the ladies. First, no matter what size she asks for, always bring at least 1/2 size bigger out too, and tell her something like %26#039;this style has been running small%26#039; so she won%26#039;t feel like she has big feet if she has to try the bigger size. A lot of women don%26#039;t want to ask for the bigger size, they will leave rather than ask for a bigger shoe. But if it is already there, you might get a sale. Also, I%26#039;ve had a sales associate bring me an additional shoe that I didn%26#039;t ask to see, telling me that these just came in and they are already selling out, I thought you might like them. I%26#039;ve also had shoes brought that were similar to the ones I asked to try on, in case those did not work for me. So, anticipate the customers needs before she asks. And be quick about meeting the needs when she does ask for help. Nothing worse than waiting endlessly to be assisted, and then waiting again for the shoe size to be brought out. Once she is in the buying mood, you can point out the sale items - most women are sucked in by a great deal.

As far as the matching purse, women aren%26#039;t into the matchy-matchy thing right now. And some people don%26#039;t want to buy extras, they just want to buy what they came looking for and nothing you do will make them want anything else. Just don%26#039;t be pushy, give her your card, and if she like your service hopefully she will look for you next time she wants to buy shoes.

Does anybody know the shoe brand that sold the three stripe trademark to adidas?

According to the salesman, they originally had the 3 stripes trademark and sold it to adidas. The sneakers i saw had 2 stripes, 1 thicker than the other and i remember the logo had palm trees in it. Old school, slouchy low top sneakers. Does anybody know the company%26#039;s name?

Thanks

In urban areas, shoes are draped over telephone and electrical wires as a showing of respect

Who hangs old boots and shoes from the branches of trees and why?

There are many different reasons for hanging shoes from tall structures. Each community has their own reasons.

In urban areas, a pair of shoes is hung from the telephone wires in remembrance of a victim of violence in the neighborhood, often a result of drugs or gangs. I do not have a web reference for this, my friend who used to live in inner-city New York gave me this inside info about why the shoes were hanging on his street.

Many colleges have the tradition of hanging shoes from a tree on campus. Some are a part of a hazing or initiation to a sports team or fraternity/sorority. At a school in Maryland, the %26#039;shoe tree%26#039; is open to all students, and contributions are made in twos by the couple... a couple throws both their pairs up on the branches when they first do it - whether it%26#039;s the first time doing it period or the first time doing it on campus.

This tradition has been observed and transformed for many different geographical areas, with different symbolism for each sub-culture. I would say any answer you get is probably a right answer, at least for the area where the person grew up.

We have this in Dublin in some Housing estates where they throw Trainers over Telephone Cables stretching across Roads. I pointed this out to a Work Colleague years ago when delivering to an Council Estate and he said it is the sign for the Drug Runners. When they take your Money for the Drugs they run off to the Person that has the Drugs and he sends them back to you with the Gear after Money has been Paid.

It is the Sign that a Druggies House is Nearby, and is open for Business.

Reply:Good work, there, seahawk. I have another. On forts, when a soldier is about to transfer, he takes his boots and slings them over the wires in front of HQ (HHC) as a last farewell. Sometimes he(or she) will write things on the boots in white paint pen. These writings can be either good things or bad things depending. Sometimes they can get rather derogatory and personal about the command staff.

Reply:Hmm, never seen %26#039;em on trees before but in STL they hang them on the power lines and light poles as a sign of ownership of their neighborhood or in remembrance of a friend or loved one who%26#039;s passed. Has NOTHING to do with drugs. Whoever said that doesn%26#039;t know what they%26#039;re talking about. Sorry but it%26#039;s true.

Why do people throw pairs of shoes into trees, or on power lines?

I heard it has something to do with gangs, or drugs, but I don%26#039;t know. What%26#039;s the deal?

Why do people throw pairs of shoes into trees, or on power lines?
It is a gang thing. It%26#039;s supposed to represent a location where someone was killed.
Reply:If there are a pair of shoes slung over a telephone wire, in Britain, it shows that that area is already occupied by a person, or people, dealing drugs.

It%26#039;s to ward off competition.

Yeah, sometimes if an area has been claimed, the shoes are used to mark the spot of the confrontation, even where someone was killed.
Reply:it is a warning device... telling all middle class people that they should avoid that neighborhood (especially past dark) if at all possible.

it%26#039;s just ghetto that%26#039;s all it is. graffiti, trash in the gutters, and shoes of the phone/power lines.
Reply:Kids did that when I was young about 30 years ago. At that time it was just mischief...perhaps wrapping your old Nikes around a power line means something different these days.

Who hangs shoes from trees and why?

The first time I saw lots of worn old shoes hanging from a tree was fairly near a gypsy camp. I thought maybe it was a sign to other gypsies, but then I%26#039;ve seen other %26quot;shoe trees%26quot; that have been nowhere near gypsies ( I think!)

Who hangs shoes from trees and why?
I keep my shoe trees in the closet, with my shoes. In general, when I put the shoes on the shoe trees, the shoes become more comfortable the next time I wear them. It is especially comforting to know that overnight on the shoe tree, the pressure on my bunion is relieved.

As to shoe trees and gypsies, I don%26#039;t eally know. I have only met a few gypsies in my lifetime, and none of them had bunions. So I don%26#039;t know that they would be highly motivated to use shoe trees.

Perhaps the trees to which you make reference are not really shoe trees, but, rather, are trees conveniently placed for recycling...??? If you are so inclined, you might revisit one of the trees. If it is a recycling tree, there should be some sort of a sign, or a green sticker, or something...
Reply:Did you mean to post this here? You have to make sure which Y/a group you post to before you submit. Thanks.

Are you sure you think? Old shoes hang from power lines as a juvenile, pathetic marking of territory. What do you mean by gypsies? Please think and then rewrite your question, because this one needs help to make any sense.

How do I get tree sap off the bottom of my tennis shoe?

We had some wood delivered and I just stepped in tree sap with my tennis shoes. How do I get it off? I%26#039;d like to avoid ruining the rubber sole if possible. Thanks!

How do I get tree sap off the bottom of my tennis shoe?
You may be able to use goo be gone, which is found at most major superstores like Publix.
Reply:WD-40 might take it off.
Reply:Get an ice-cube and get the sap very cold and peel it off the sole of the shoe. Do it in small sections until it is all gone.
Reply:stick them in the freezer and then once frozen pop it off.
